animals

The animal kingdom has always been, for Kelly Leahy Radding, an endless source of wonder. From the badger she came face to face with on a Yellowstone trail to the horses she has loved since childhood, every animal in this gallery was encountered in life — observed, sketched, and carried back to the studio to be painted.

Her wildlife work shares the same meditative approach as her bird paintings: slow mediums, careful observation, a commitment to capturing not just the physical likeness of a creature but its particular presence — the quality that makes a peregrine unmistakably a peregrine, a quail unmistakably itself.
