There is a very cool farm in Rhode Island called “Wicked Tulips Flower Farm” where you can go and pick your own tulips! After only two years of operation, it is wildly popular. I was able to get there this past spring to pick tulips. As in all farming operations, they are subject to the fickle whims of mother nature. We had a very cold snap in early spring here in New England that kept the bulbs from growing to begin with and then another snap that zapped the blooms during the height of the picking time. Even so, I managed to get a bucket full of beautiful tulips and took many photos of them as well as drawings and color notes. I predict there will be more tulip paintings in my future, especially after a visit to The National Gallery in London where I sat enchanted in the room of the Dutch Flower painters of the Golden Age. Oh, the tulips…!
