Endurance – Earth
Monterey Cypress, Point Reyes National Seashore. California
watercolor on mounted paper, 20 x 30 inches
This cypress tree balancing on the edge of a cliff is to me a symbol of what all species will have to endure to overcome the consequences of a warming world. Shaped and challenged by the buffeting winds off the ocean yet it has persevered and remains solidly rooted in the earth. With sea levels rising and temperatures warming, all of nature will have to weather the storms and somehow find a way to remain grounded.
